“Azerbaijan Railways” secures an 11% increase in freight transport
RH
“Azerbaijan Railways” CJSC transported nearly 14 million tons of freight in the January–September period of 2026. The recorded figure is 11% higher than in the same period last year. In September alone, there was a sharp rise of 29% in total freight volumes and 37% in transit traffic.
"Postxronika.az" reports, citing ADY, that during the reporting period, transit shipments increased by 15% to reach 5.7 million tons. Among international transit routes, a 20% increase was recorded on the East-West corridor, while the North-South direction saw a 26% rise. The expansion of the country’s transport and logistics capacity has accelerated the drawing of international freight flows to the railways.
The effective operation of transit corridors further strengthens Azerbaijan’s position as a regional logistics hub. The steady increase in freight volumes is the logical result of modernizing infrastructure and improving service quality. Targeted measures continue to be implemented to raise the throughput capacity of the rail network.
