Russia and Ukraine prepare to resume talks mediated by the United States

Despite the United States’ efforts to end the conflict, Kyiv has been hit by ballistic missiles, while Ukraine has launched hundreds of drones toward Moscow. Against the backdrop of intense fighting, Russia and Ukraine said they are ready to resume peace talks for the first time since February, with Washington mediating them next month. Even another exchange of the bodies of fallen servicemen between the sides, mediated by Belarus, has taken place.
According to Reuters, as cited by Postxronika.az, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff presented new peace proposals prepared in Oslo to Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg. Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said the proposed conditions do not fully satisfy them and that serious disagreements remain. The Ukrainian side, meanwhile, describes Russia’s terms as capitulation, rejecting demands for territorial concessions and requirements that would limit sovereignty.
The resumption of diplomatic contacts opens important opportunities for easing tensions between the parties. However, the lack of a slowdown in military operations and the sides’ uncompromising positions complicate the achievement of a peace agreement. The efforts of international mediators will play a decisive role in ensuring lasting stability in the region.
