Russia supports a review of the UN Security Council's sanctions regime against North Korea.
Postxronika.az reports, citing TASS, that this was announced by Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko.
According to him, the sanctions regime in force since 2006 has failed to show its effectiveness over the past 20 years.
Rudenko accused Western countries of applying economic pressure on North Korea while ignoring the factors driving Pyongyang to strengthen its defense capabilities.
The diplomat said Moscow will continue to oppose this policy together with Security Council members who share its position.
