Europe seeks a role in Ukraine talks

In Russian media on Monday, the main focus was on European countries' attempts to take part in possible peace talks over Ukraine.

Postxronika.az reports, citing TASS, that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met with German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York. The German side said Europe should have a seat at the negotiating table on resolving the Ukraine issue. At the same time, a visit to Moscow by the Vatican's special envoy, Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, is also being presented as one of the steps taken toward talks. The US, meanwhile, hopes a deal on Ukraine can be reached by winter.
