According to the schedule of the International Judo Federation, a prestigious Grand Slam judo tournament will be held in the United Arab Emirates’ capital from October 29 to 31. Azerbaijan will be represented by 11 athletes (7 men, 4 women) across 9 weight categories. The tournament, which awards qualification points for the Los Angeles 2028 Summer Olympic Games, is expected to bring together more than 400 judoka from 60 countries.
Postxronika.az reports, citing ACF, that a team of professional coaches will lead our national team, and that international referee Nazim Umbayev will also be among the officiating representatives at the event. Included in the IJF World Judo Tour, this major tournament creates an important opportunity for our team to enrich its ranking points. The level of preparation demonstrated gives great grounds to expect our athletes to return from the tournament with high-caliber medals.
The fact that our national team will be represented at international tournaments with a broad roster showcases the successful development of the judo school in our country. Every ranking point earned during the Olympic cycle plays a decisive role in obtaining qualification for future Olympic Games. It is expected that our athletes, who excel in Eastern combat sports, will also come out of this test victorious.
